Introduction to Research Course - 2 days
Whether you participate in the Classroom session or choose the Online e-learning, this short course is designed to bring you basic scientific research skills in a practical way by using penguins and seabirds as our frame of reference.
This course can be completed as a stand along course or combined with any of SANCCOB’s other training, volunteering or Seabird internships.
What will you learn?
• How to identify different types of penguins and other seabirds
• Different environmentments in which seabirds live
• Day to day tasks of working with different types of seabirds
• Food selection and preparation
• How to handle and feed different types of seabirds
• Seabird behaviour, common illness and diseases
• Unique Health and Safety aspects of working with seabirds
• What computer programmes is sufficient for basic research.
Course structure
Choose between the Online e-learning or a Classroom session.
Online e-learning give you the opportunity to complete this course at your own time, in your own environment. You will be introduced to the content through scenarios, case studies, videos, pictures and online quiz.
The classroom sessions is designed for the learner that prefers a more traditional learning experience. Learrning will take place through observation, group discussion, case studies, scenarios, videos and some easy assessments designed to prepare you well for.
Who can participate?
University students that have to complete dissertation projects as part of service learning or study placements, recent graduates, citizen scientists, conservation field workers or anybody with an interest in pursuing a career in research.
