Local Volunteer
LOCAL VOLUNTEER INFORMATION OPEN DAY - 25 MAY 2013
You are considered a local volunteer when…
- You are a South African citizen currently residing in the Cape Peninsula, South Africa
- A permanent resident
- A foreign student in South Africa, with more than 1 year of study left to complete.
- 18 years and older
We are only able to accommodate local volunteers for ‘one-off’ or short 2-3 week periods during crises situations where there is a large intake of birds such as oil spills.
Local volunteers play an important role at SANCCOB and what a better way to demonstrate this through the infamous MV Treasure oilspill in 2000 where 11000 volunteers from all over the world worked day and night to help SANCCOB care for and release 19 500 African penguins.
If you are younger than 18 and would like to volunteer, click here for more information about our Wild about…Marine Careers programme.
