Education Supervisor at SANCCOB Gqeberha

Location: Cape Recife, Gqeberha

SANCCOB, a leading marine conservation non-profit organisation, seeks to employ an Education Supervisor to join their dynamic team in the Eastern Cape. The Education Supervisor will be responsible for the management of SANCCOB’s Education Department and will report to the Centre Manager of SANCCOB Gqeberha. Applications from South African residents are invited. 

Key responsibilities:  

Education: 

  • Design, develop and implement curriculum aligned educational programmes in line with the organisation’s mission and conservation strategic objectives for adults and learners ranging from Grade R to Grade 12. 
  • Lead, train and mentor education staff, interns, and volunteers to professionally execute educational programmes in line with best teaching practice. 
  • Design, develop and implement education strategy. 
  • Ensure income and visitor/learner number targets are met.  
  • Actively fundraise to enhance and expand educational programmes, including prospecting donors, writing proposals and reporting back. 
  • Strategically network with key stakeholders and develop partnerships to enhance and expand the organisation’s educational programmes. 
  • Ensure that the organisation’s educational impact is appropriately measured, assessed and increased. 
  • Develop and conduct interactive public tours of the SANCCOB facility.  
  • Grow and develop interactive Saturday and Holiday Clubs for children to learn about marine conservation. 

Volunteer and Skills Development Programme: 

  • Oversee and co-ordinate all aspects of the SANCCOB skills development program at the Gqeberha centre, including the following:  
  • Oversee the successful implementation and management of all aspects of the skills development programme. This includes successful engagements with stakeholders such as volunteer and internship agencies, universities, conservation entities, zoos, and aquaria, etc. as well as volunteers, interns and learners. 
  • Ensure sufficient volunteer/intern/learnership capacity is always available to effectively support SANCCOB’s operational requirements. 
  • Ensure interns and volunteers are managed effectively and enjoy their time at SANCCOB.  
  • Co-ordinate orientation sessions, networking, and training sessions to provide volunteers and interns with knowledge and skills to contribute in a meaningful way during their time at SANCCOB. 
  • Ensure the development and growth of the skill development program. 
  • Manage external surveys, exit interviews, and provide feedback reports and actions to improve the skills development programme. 

Administrative functions: 

  • Assist with the preparation of the education department’s annual budget and manage it effectively. 
  • Manage inventories of all the education department equipment and ensure that systems are in place to take care of all the equipment. 
  • Produce internal and external budgets, reports, and statistics, including the monitoring and evaluation of educational programmes. 
  • Ensure that all aspects of educational programmes are successfully coordinated in line with programme specifications (transport, meals, resources, etc.).  
  • Coordinate all logistical arrangements for educational programs. 
  • Assist at front desk when necessary, including managing point of sale system. 

Events: 

  • Work with SANCCOB staff and external partners to assist with event planning and implementation. 

General: 

  • Complying with Health and Safety Regulations and procedures – remain informed of SANCCOB’s latest Health and Safety regulations, taking all reasonable measures to protect your own health and safety, as well as that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions. Taking a precautionary approach by identifying and either rectifying or, if that is not possible, reporting potential problems which could affect people’s health and safety. 
  • Any other tasks necessary for the conduct of the employer’s business, as the employer may from time to time direct. 

Requirements: 

  • Education Diploma, or equivalent qualification. 
  • Minimum 2 years’ working experience in the field of education. 
  • Strong people management and development skills with the ability to motivate and lead staff, interns and volunteers. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (ability to do so in more than one language would be advantageous). 
  • Strong program development skills. 
  • Planning and organisational capabilities and the ability to work against strict deadlines.   
  • Passion for wildlife conservation and preservation. 
  • Ability to work in a team. 
  • Ability to problem-solve. 
  • Able to work on weekends and public holidays. 
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite). 
  • Valid Code 8 driver’s license and own transport.
