Gulls darted in Melkbosstrand

Gulls darted in Melkbosstrand

Two Hartlaub’s gulls were spotted recently on Melkbosstrand beach with small darts embedded in their bodies.

SANCCOB staff are trying to capture the birds, which are still able to fly despite their injuries. Without proper treatment, infection could set in and the birds could die.

Although common in the Western Cape, Hartlaub’s gull is a protected species, with only 5 000 breeding pairs left in the world. If you have any information about this cruel attack, please contact SANCCOB on 021 557 6155 during office hours, or 078 638 3731 after hours.
