We are ready . . . thanks to you

We are ready . . . thanks to you

Just as volunteers and supporters rallied round when the MV Treasure sank off the coast of South Africa 16 years ago – causing the world’s worst coastal bird disaster – concerned people like you responded to our appeal for help in preparing for unexpected oil spills this winter.

Although our waters are better protected nowadays, SANCCOB remains on high alert for oil spills – especially during the stormy winter months.

Since we started in 1968, we have responded to every major oil spill along the southern African coastline. We are also members of the Global Oiled Wildlife Response System (GOWRS), working with local and international organisations to ensure rapid and effective response to oil spills around the world.

Staff and volunteers have to be continuously trained to ensure we have enough ‘hands on deck’, while stocks of equipment, veterinary supplies and food must be maintained. Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way, to ensure we’re prepared for the worst!
